I picked up a 90 F-250 yesterday 4x4 that had been sitting up awhile Was told it was running when parked .
I got some new batteries for it today and went to try to start it the ignition switch was acting and feeling funny.,could get the dash to come on and finally got the glow plugs on but would die when I went to the start position.
Reached my hand on top of the steering column to check the plug and as soon as I touched it the switch fell apart. When that happened it shorted somewhere under there.
Went and got a switch and put it on and now I've got nothing on the switch just nothing at all happens when I turn it..
So I'm assuming I most likely blew a fusible link and did find several next to the passenger side battery.
I've been trying to find a wiring diagram to figure out which one but Google is running me all over the place and half the diagrams you really can't see well enough or it's sending me to the wrong years.
So my question is does anyone know which one feeds the ignition switch without me having to knick all the wires to test for power? Rather not do that.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Your probably going to be hard pressed to find the wiring diagram.
I always just poke em with a test light on each side, use tape or liquid electrical tape to cover the holes so no condensation can enter and corrode the wire.
Thanks, guess that's what I'll do. I'll run up to the parts store soon and pick up a good, sharp test light. The test leads on my meter won't go through insulation too blunt . Hope this truck works out,, if the motor is good I think I got a good deal, but if there's any major problems it was a bad deal. I rolled the dice.
