2019 or 2020

New here and currently have a 2015 6.7.Close to pulling the trigger on a new 2019 and now I'm wondering if I should wait for the 2020 model. I think the 19 looks better grill wise but the new transmission in 2020 looks impressive. What are you guys thoughts. Thanks.

If your not in a hurry I would wait. New tranny, new engine, small things like it actually applying brakes for collision avoidance. I would think it’s definitely worth checking out.

I’d wait until you can see the 2020 in person.

My only other reason for wanting to get the 2019 is threw my work we get 5k off. It will be Jan of 2020 till our fleet deals come back around if they even do. Sometimes they do sometimes they dont.

To me, assuming you're still looking at a diesel, it really does come down to the transmission. In 2019, Ford is using the 6R140, which is not just one of Ford's best ever transmissions, it's one of the best heavy duty transmissions of all time. Those are big shoes to fill. While I have heard that the new heavy duty 10-speed (maybe 10-R140) is being mated to the gasoline 7.3L engine, I haven't heard about the 6.7.

If the 10-speed isn't mated to the 6.7 in 2020 and Ford is keeping the 6R140 on the 6.7, then it doesn't matter. Pick the styling you like better and poke around to see if any other features have improved. Obviously, you get an extra year of life when it comes to sell it ... 2020 is a year newer on paper than 2019, so there's that obvious benefit.

If the 10-speed is mated to the 6.7 in 2020, then it comes down to your faith that a 1st year production of a radically different transmission will be a good thing. Some conclude that Ford has tested the crap out of the new tranny and it's the real deal -- don't settle for antiquated technology when you can have the next big thing. Nothing wrong with that opinion at all. I am more conservative. It took Ford a while to wring out the issues when it released the 10-speed transmission in the light duty F-150 line. I expect the same for the Super Duty line. I wouldn't want to sign up to be part of Ford's extended beta testing with the new 10R140. Count me among those to be legitimately excited to not be getting a 10-speed transmission in my 6.7.

What on earth makes you think ford is keeping the 6 speed? It’s gone.

At 5:02 the engineer says ‘the outgoing 6 speed’

The 2020 trucks don’t even go into production until December of 19. If you really want a 2020, it’s likely worth waiting a couple months to get your fleet incentives.

Only the 6R100 remains, and its for the F250 6.2 gasser. Everything else gets the 10R140. Not only that, the diesel is the 3rd generation that promises less lag, better efficiency and Class leading power and torque. Also GM and Ram have announced that they no longer need torque management in any gear, so they deliver full torque in first gear. I would expect Ford to do the same. My bold predictions are 465/1015 for the 2020 (in every gear). 40,000 lbs gooseneck towing on F450 with a 3” ball. Why? Because the trailer industry is ready for it.

I never said I think Ford is keeping the 6R140. I said that I wasn't sure what was planned for the 6.7 because I had only seen news on the 7.3. Because I didn't know, I treated the two alternatives. Reading comprehension isn't really your strong suit, I suppose.

It was very clear in the video that the 10 speed is going to be mated to the 6.7.

I think you could do with a little more respect in the forum. I hope you can comprehend that . . . .

If you can get a good deal I'd do the 2019, if not wait a year and get all the latest and greatest features. Of course there is always a chance there could be some problems with the new tranny that might take a while to iron out. Time will tell.

so you didn’t think ford was keeping the 6 speed, but wasn’t sure what ford was using with the 6.7.....so...the possibility of a new NEW transmission. A second transmission for the 6.7? Now I comprehend!

I simply didn't know. I didn't expect that they'd keep 2 transmission options for the 6.7. I assumed that Ford would use either the 6R140 or the 10R140 for the 6.7. I didn't know what its plan was. So, if it kept the 6R140 ... If it went to 10R140 ... Other people, such as Scorpion67 included more insight to the transmission and also to potential plans for how the engine power might be used/restricted in the future. Good stuff.

Acadianbob ... I'm certain that I gave as much respect as I was afforded. Cheers.

With the improvements I would go with a 2020. I have a 18 Platty 6.7 that will just about ready to trade in. As much highway and off road as I have to do the new 10 speed will be just the ticket along with the other mid life updates.

Model year production usually starts about July or August in the preceding year. There have been many times it started much earlier, like MY 1999 and 2011 for Super Duty.
