Even in the 1975 MPC that * means improvise or procure locally, so they were not available at that time. I've never found any NOS. There is another number they used which was 356782-S

Thank you. That is what I've found. 1948-56 trucks used 42868-S8 (U-22). This is the same size with an attached external tooth washer. Fit/function is the same but does not look as good installed.

If you use them or source them without the lockwasher, they will sit more flush. If you’re concerned about them coming loose just add a little loc-tite.
