I have a 1954 f100 that I am putting together stock as possible. I am about to order new front springs as mine are in pretty bad shape. Are there more than one stock type and height spring? Also Midfifty show a 2 or 4 degree wedge that mount between the axle and spring. My truck did not have this wedge when I disassembled it. Do I need one.
That wedge is to change/ adjust the caster. Part of wheel alignment. Caster helps the wheels return to the straight ahead position after making a turn and also keeps the truck from pulling one way or the other when going down the road.
You might or might not need one depending upon checking the wheel alignment

thanks for the info. I will be getting new tires in the future and I will have aligned then.
Keep in mind that most places now just have alignment machines that"if it's in the green, it's ok" as far as specs go. And, might just set the toe (which does effect tire wear)You might have to take it to a truck shop.that knows about straight axles.
None of the shops around here can use their machines on old vehicles, their computers don't have the specs on file. A truck alignment shop can do it "old style".
