JBG use to carry them ( I posted the link a long time ago) but no longer show them as available, or at least does not even show them as an option to order.
Back in the day when I was still in the NAVY, I had a 49 ****** wagon. The glove box was starting to come apart. I took it out, mixed up some fiberglass resin and brushed it on the outside. Let it dry, then put soaked fiberglass over the top of that. Last time I saw it the box was still holding together.
Use your old cardboard glovebox as a template (undo the glue n staples) and fabricate (cut, bend, weld or rivet) a new one out of aluminum or sheetmetal.
I considered fabricating a metal one, but was concerned it would be noisy. So, I just got a cardboard one. After all, the original lasted 40 years. I might coat it with some undercoat as an added measure.
Im glad I grabbed the plastic one when they came out, just curious why they are no longer out there,I guess the 3D copier could produce one, seem to be a clean simple solution
When I had my heater/ac mess apart, I stuffed an old ammo can up under the dash into the glove box opening just for grins....it was close. I might fab something up from an old ammo can and see how it turns out.
