Hi my 07 Extended E350 needs a new rotor on the front. Is this an easy fix? Is there a right up of how-to somewhere? Or can somebody tell me what to do? Is it just take off the caliper and pull the rotor off or is there a lot more to it?
Thanks for any help.
No there is a little more to it than that ...You need to take off the Caliper BRACKET Mounting bolts ( 2) and they are on good ( 145 Lbs ft ) so you need a real big bar and some power to take them off ...after that you take the caliper off with the mounting bracket as an assembly....On re-install after you have changed the rear seal ( have to replace it ) you need to know how to pack bearings and re- install them for my 95 ...it is 22 lbs ft for the nut and back off 1/4 turn or 45* .....but you need to seat the bearings first... and make sure you use a new cotter pin and put los of grease in the Cap...then you need to re torque the mounting bolts ( I use loctitie too ) , THEN reinstall the caliper ...other than that it is a piece of cake ....You need Torque Specs on all the hardware...I have Maunals but if you are stuck I can tell you what they are ....good luck
Thanks blageurt. I found the torque for the center nut in the haynes manual. 17-25. Then back off a half turn, then 22-25. I will have to make a run to Napa for some parts. I will report back. Maybe with questions. Not sure.
Welcome ...you just described seating the bearings...that's the main thing ...I do it by hand with a Box end wrench and release it ...then use the Torque W....I have gone Diesel ….I Torque everything …..It.s a Fetish ...I have many ..I even bought the tiny one ( 125 in lb) just to re- torque my Injectors...6 of 8 were loose.....Imagine that...
