Our a/c first started only blowing cold air when my foot was NOT on the accelerator. Took it to a Ford dealer and they said it needed a vacuum (something - forgot) and wanted to charge an astronomical sum to fix it. Then it just started working again for no reason but I had Tuffys check it out anyway. They said there was a tiny leak and added freon and ink to check the leak. Now the air is not working at all even when my foot is off the accelerator. Do you have any thought about how I can fix this? Do you think it is this vacuum thing Ford thinks it is? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
An "F250 Excursion Van"??? That's a mashup of three different things. It would have to be either an F250 truck (wrong forum), an Excursion SUV (wrong forum again), or an E-series van (this forum). Want to try again?
However, in general, Fords of this vintage rely on vacuum for control of inlet and outlet only. Temperature is controlled strictly by an electrical motor. It is not uncommon for the blend door to break and flop around when the vehicle accelerates and decelerates. Vacuum issues cannot cause temperature control problems.
Do a search on vacuum reservoir and AC. IF vacuum tank or check valve fails you have to tear down a lot of stuff (high dealership quote). On your search you will find several ways around this.

As I already stated, vacuum issues cannot cause temperature control problems . Vacuum problems will cause the airflow to come out the wrong place (always defrost).
In the E vans vacuum leak will cause the air to divert to defrost. Rear AC/heater unit works depending on the setting of the front control. If set on AC will blow cold air from the roof vents. If set on floor or defrost will blow hot air from the lower rear vents. Given the lack of detail on the original post and what the dealer told him/her, ill not disregard vacuum issues.
in the other hand I apologize if I have offend you. I would have never guessed this could be such a sensitive matter you felt the need to validate you statement with bold fonts. At least you didn’t capitalized.
I would never have guessed that, after clearly stating a fact, someone else who hadn't done their homework and didn't understand either the cause or effect of the symptom stated by the OP, would come along and give purported "advice" that was both wrong and essentially useless. Without firm clarification, such wrong and useless "advice" would only serve to further confuse the situation. Given the confusion already evident in the OP's posts, why allow additional confusion to be injected?
