97 ford trans

I have a 97 ford f 150 4x4 automatic trans that has 84,000 miles. when I am driving at roughly 35 mph it begins shifting but does not always complete the shift. It seems to flutter a little between the gears? If I accelerate it shifts with no problem but if I am driving in the 35 mph area it does not make a clean shift. HELP!!!! The tranny fluid has not been changed in roughly 25,000 miles. The transmittion code on the tag is U

I turned the O/D off and the problem goes away. What engages the O/D on this model trans?

Check some of the other threads in the forum. There's a couple that refer to a technical bulletin about a 2-3 shift problem in some trannys for the '97 or '98 F150. If the Overdrive "Off" light on the stick blinks, it's a warning code that something (either a sensor on the tranny or the tranny itself) is amiss. Check the other threads about transmission issues and I'm sure you'll find some useful information!
