Stick 2007, 6L F350, have 110k miles. Wondering if I should start saving for a clutch disc replacement. Only towed a 9000 lb RV 3-4000 miles, rest was just commuting, and I don't race the truck. Anybody has any statistics or personal experience with 6l clutch life?
Thank you
Should still be good for a while. Sounds like you've treated it right. Only other thing I'd wonder if if you're the type to rest your foot on the clutch pedal when not using it then the throwout bearing might be a bit tired.
It depends on if your commuting is stop and go city driving or longer trips on the interstate. I would be surprised if it was close to worn out at 100k miles, but it all just depends on how you drive it. I would treat it like you do brakes though. When one part is worn out the others usually aren’t far behind. Change pads, rotors and calipers all at the same time so you only have to do the job once and they are all matched to each other. I’m usually dealing with semis, but when I do a clutch I resurface the flywheel, change all bearings, rear main seal, etc. I would be saving up anyways. Not because it’s about to go out, but because it’s always good to have a savings account built up if you have a truck.
Thank you everybody. My commuting was 20 miles on country roads, 2-3 stops. Anybody done this lately to give me a hint on the cost? Drove stick 48 years, sold my Honda at 180k with original clutch and is still running 5 years later. The only one I paid for was a VW I bought used and change clutch at 95k in Canada. Cost me about C$1000 with water pump almost 30 years ago.
I just did a google search for clutch kits(disc, pressure plate, flywheel and alignment tool) for the zf6 and most of what I’m seeing is between about $300 to $1,000 depending on the brand.
Thank you Phillips91. I am not concerned about parts, more about labor. Never consider it, but can it be done on your driveway, or can I trust some mechanic that is not "diesel" rated?
