I know this is a worn out subject, but I'd like to hear some opinions.
My F-150 has the 4.2, V-6, and she's over 200K.
About a year ago, I did a compression test and the #2 cylinder was substantially lower than the rest. So I added oil to that cylinder and did the test again... the reading only came up a little bit, so I'm assuming the problem is at the valves.
Now it's time for another oil change, and I'm thinking about using an additive this time. Any opinions?
My opinion would be there's no oil or additive that'll overcome or fix a leaking cylinder----this would seem to be a mechanical issue requiring repairs not necessarily associated with the engine oil.

Thanks JWA. At 200K+, you're probably right.
Maybe I'll just shoot a can of Seafoam through the intake, and see if that knocks anything loose. I'm hoping it's just some kind of carbon build-up and not a mechanical problem. "Hoping"....
Oh, I completely understand "hope"----I suffer from that myself occasionally too.
FWIW I have two 5.4 motors with well over 260K miles each, both running pretty strong without any major performance issues. Those engines arrived in E250 van's one with 203K miles, the other 165K miles Then I had a 5.4 with just over 142K miles that was quickly loosing oil pressure, struggling to maintain 8 PSI at hot idle in Park. Even when I added a concoction of 5 quarts Rotella 15-40W and one of Lucas Oil Stabilizer OP was still dropping to just over 15 PSI. Off idle OP would jump to 70+ PSI but I still opted for a Ford reman'd engine----would rather fix something on my schedule rather than have it fail on its own inconvenient time and place.
Good luck with your "hopeful" trials---I'm pulling for ya!
