Does the fuel pump run when you're trying to start it? You say there was a slight hiss @ the test port but that means nothing if the fuel pump wasn't running at the time you tested the pressure.
The others here are correct. If it runs or tries to run on starter fluid then you have a fueling problem. Best thing to do now is rent, borrow or buy a fuel pressure gauge and connect it to the fuel rail. When you turn the key from OFF to RUN you should hear the fuel pump come on for a few seconds and it should make pressure.
