2003 F-150,
Is there anyway to disable the warning chime when the ignition key is in the ignition switch assembly with the doors open, I have heard something happens to the ECM? Can someone shed some light here? Have looked into the owners manual for direction with no results.
thanks, broken wire
I know most older Fords just have 1 wire that grounds when the key is installed. It usually has a grey plug under the column cover to unplug. I can not guarantee that the 97-up are like this though.

I feel your pain. It's not like the older vehicles where you can just unplug the chime unit. In the 97 and up trucks the chime is built into a GEM attached to the fuse block. The GEM controls a bunch of other stuff, so you can't disconnect it.
You're best bet is to find the correct wire in the steering wheel harness and disable the switch.
I had the same concern, but didn't want to disconnect the "key-in" sensor because it might screw up the remote start/security system. What I did was put a switch in the wire which grounds when the driver's door is opened. It can be found in the driver's kick panel. I forget the color, but will look it up if you need it.
AegisSailor and MrBBS thanks a bunch for the input,
My wiring diagrams go to 2000, yes I would appreciate a color code please if it is not to much trouble,
If you don't want to modify the wiring in the vehicle, go to your Ford dealer and ask for a seat belt extender. It should be free. If you install it into the buckle the electronics think you have buckled up. By the way the extender makes the seat belt more comfortable also.
