1964 grille part

I have a '64 F100. had the original bucket seats and center console.

What I'm looking for information on is the grille. It has this gap in the upper corners on both sides above the turn signal lamps and is clearly factory made. Does anyone know what these removable parts were for and where I might find replacements? This grille is pretty rough so may just replace the grille when I get to the body work, but this is a curiosity for me right now.

Here's a pic of the grille, it's a one piece assembly, so I don't see any removable parts above the parking lamps.

Could they be openings for a factory style brush guard?

That is where the grille guard supports go through the grille. There should also be holes in the radiator support as well where the support bars went through it too.

Grill Add-on

I remember seeing F100's with a grill mounted on the bumper in front of the factory grill. It was on a plumbers truck I was looking to buy

Just saw pictures, not in person. It extended far enough out with a 'U' welded on the outer edges to pipe. Kind of like the way electricians rig their trucks, now the stock is stored up top.

What does your front bumper look like?

The bumper was loose when I bought the truck. The previous owner, or two, had used this as a parts truck so no way to know who swapped bumpers. That being said, there is nothing on my bumper that would indicate anything unusual. Just the bolt holes, and a bent spot where the bumper was used to pull on something, so I guess it is likely that if the original was straight, it was swapped out.

It's possible this grille was also swapped, but it does have the same rattle can patina on some of the rest of the truck. But there are no holes behind these opening, only one of the bolts for the inner fender well.

Anyone have a pic of a factory style brush guard that would be secured up top like that? Was this an option or was this likely a dealer or aftermarket modification? I've been reading nightly various threads on these trucks and its amazing what Ford was doing back then that they put on these trucks, if you were willing to pay for it. Some great stuff here, learning more about these trucks than I probably need to know.

Thanks, Guys.

Lee, can you post a picture of your interior showing the seats and console and one of your warranty plate on the drivers door? The 1964 trucks with the bucket seats and console are very rare and I'd like to document this one. I've got 4 others in my list.

Here's one of the cleanest ones I've seen so far.

Thanks!

Interior condition when I bought the truck a couple weeks ago. No seats. The console is now loose, but was in place with original carpet underneath it and many decades of crud over the screws.

I'll work on getting that. I had to take up the tranny cover to get the old T98 out, so had to take the console loose. The seats are long gone, but the original Rangoon red console is there.

Here's the data plate:

Thank you Lee! Console is a very cool piece. It is sure cut to match the floor pan exactly. Also a 51xxxx DSO so a special order vehicle, but not because of the colors.

My console is cut quite a bit different along the floor pans since mine is an automatic without any removable transmission hump. Interesting to see the variations.

Of course, ND will claim your truck was never built.

Thanks again!

Here's the only pic, it isn't very good because this is obviously not the same grille.

Solved: That does show the gap in the grille, with some little upturned trim parts that would bolt on. The grille and bumper must have been taken off another vehicle and put on my truck, as the mounting behind does not show the additional holes that would be needed. Thanks, I think that answers the question I original put up.

There is a unibody with a brush guard on it that I pass by on a regular basis. The barber shop owner has it out in front of his store.

Here are pics of factory grille guard and you can see the cut outs in grille and core support. 1964 F250 4x4.

This '64 once had the optional factory installed grill guard. The horseshoe piece is part of the installation kit.
