When it started did it run smoothly?

I had a 360 years ago that jumped the cam gear, it would start, but not easy and run but not well. It had just jumped a tooth or two.

Not implying anything, just throwing that out there.

One of my old 460's destroyed the distributor causing it to backfire so violently it blew the carb apart & curved the aircleaner up around the mounting stud, never did like Holleys anyway...

I had a 1987 460 that back fired and it was the ignition module.
If you think it jumped time put a timing light on it and that will tell you.

When your module failed would the motor eventually start back up or was it a dead duck. i checked mine for spark right after it happened and it had spark. Is it possible for the module to have spark and have a bad module?

It did it about 4 times you would let it set and would run good. For $80.00 is cheap at shop time rate.
