The sensor doesn't tell the valve when to close, but it does tell it to open when the back pressure gets too high. If the sensor doesn't register the pressure the valve could stay closed under load which would basically choke the engine and kill power.

When I cleaned my EBP sensor and tube I didn’t see any change in my EPB PID readings. I ordered a new sensor from clay at Riff Raff Diesel and my readings are now all within .1 of each other. BTW when reading these three PID’s make sure you are in stock tune as some tuners modify these readings through the tunes.
I've read this statement multiple times over the past few weeks in these cold weather threads. Just to clarify, my truck should have BARO EBP and MAP all within .5 of each other. If they ARENT, then I'm looking at replacing EBP or just cleaning?

You can try cleaning it and see if it works and don't jab in there, I think there is some fragile stuff in there.

I’m not saying that EBP pid numbers effect cold starts in any way. To test function of a EBP sensor the koeo ebp, map and baro pid numbers should be very close to each other. My ebp was 2 psi higher on a cold engine (not hard start) koeo pid readings. I cleaned the ebp tube and sensor and pid numbers remained the same. Purchased a new ebp sensor from clay at Riff Raff diesel and now my ebp, map and baro read .1 of each other on the first start of the day.

I just replaced the sensor, block fitting and tube since I have a bunch of other stuff off as well.

You know what you can also do is replace the sensor/tube adapter that is integrated into the HPOP gear cover. I didn't replace this when I did the tube and sensor on mine but it was impossible to clean the hardened carbon buildup out of the inside the of the passageway even with brake cleaner and some narrow wire brass brushes. It looked very similar to the buildup inside your manifold adapter. Not sure if it makes a big deal for the functioning of the sensor...probably not if there is still a big-enough opening but it kind of annoyed me. I think you have to suck the oil out of the HPOP reservoir first though before removing that cover. (Not that big of a deal if so)

Stock:
Ford Exhaust Backpressure Sensor bracket original equipment

Fancy one that seals with a rubber gasket: might be less prone to bending like the stock one easily does.
