I've got a 2016 diesel super duty, that has a very loud whistling noise that seems to be coming from the dash or AC/Heat ducting system. It happens mostly when quartering or driving straight into high winds when the truck is cold and in winter. Although it can happen anytime. Funny thing is my 2010 Focus had the same issue. Of course the dealer can never find it. Has any one else had this prob or know what's causing it?
Fairly common problem. My truck does it occasionally. Mine sounds like a kazoo. If water isn’t coming in I wouldn’t worry.
Lol, perfect description. I've not seen water but it's really loud and really annoying. Today is very windy and it was non stop everywhere I went. If common, is the reason known? TSB or anything?
Have you tried setting the AC to recirculate to see if the noise goes away?
I've turned it on, off, ac, max ac, temp up and down makes no difference at all. Even tried turning on the wipers. No difference. Today I videoed it just for the sound. Cause I know the dealership will say unable to duplicate.
I think it might be something to do with the way the windshield is sealed. I believe some guys replaced their windshield and the noise was gone. if you search this site you’ll find some info.
Yup. *Very common*. It's the windshield seal. My OEM windshield did it anytime there was any crosswinds. Had it replaced (cracked) a few years ago, and now the new one has only done it occasionally (but it still does it), and only when high winds are coming directly 90 degrees at the side of the truck.
Best way to "find" it is to take a roll of wide painter's tape (the blue masking tape), and put it around the perimeter of your windshield seal (on the outside of the truck), do one area at a time, and experiment with it. I bet you'll find that the windshield seal, somewhere along the bottom, where it meets the cowl area, is the cause area.

Thanks very much for this. Its exactly what I need to hear. Now begins the battle with Ford.

Well I did it a bit different and it wasn't real easy, but, I fired up the air compressor and with some help from my daughter I finally hit the right spot at the right angle and was able to duplicate the noise. It was in the upper right hand corner of the pillar and windshield. I had already gotten video while driving, and took some more using the air gun. Ford didn't even argue. Its having the windshield resealed right now. So thanks all for good advice.
Got it back and it's nice and quite now regardless of wind. Got a new windshield to boot, to bad the old one wasnt damaged. Around here, Amarillo Tex. it's a miracle to not have rock damaged windshields.
