This is the 3rd brake light. Otherwise referred to as a high mount brake light or cab light.
Unit sold on Amazon.com. Item looks good. Fits perfectly. Truly plug n play.
I installed as soon as the mailman handed the box over. I contacted seller on the same day. Seller promptly replies to advise that there is no warranty.
Problem is that LED are so dim, they cannot be seen by other drivers. Someone will run into you from behind because they can't see your brake light. And it leaks.
Maybe the wiring is messed up and it’s not getting the proper power for some reason. Connect it directly to a battery if you can just to see if it gets any brighter.
The wiring is fine. The lamps that were in the OEM unit worked perfectly. The problem is that these are very dim LED. Not all LED are equal. Some are brighter, and some are dimmer. This unit was constructed with dim LED, and they don't shine through the red lens well enough to be seen.
Second problem being that the foam gasket does not work. Rain leaks right through it.
For what it’s worth, the seller’s response says he doesn’t offer warranty “plans”. That’s different than if you’re just trying to return it. Even if he doesn’t accept returns, you can (presumably) dispute the charge since it doesn’t work correctly.
Lots of bad products out there . I live in a hot state led headlights fail after six or so months they just can't take the ambient heat and sunlight . And yes I used expensive ones sold on here . Lost over $300 trying to get them to last . Perhaps if the enclosure was different than stock . Led burn't right off each time .Loved the amount of light and color .
I think almost every aftermarket product sold on eBay & amazon.com is illegal.
That's why those people are selling those items outside of normal distribution channels. Just like all the "performance" items that don't have CARB E.O. NO.
I took a chance. It didn't work out. Now others can learn from my mistake, and select something different.
LED lamps in the OEM lamp housing, behind the OEM red lens worked perfect. My problem was that my OEM lamp housing was leaking, so I needed a replacement. It wasn't the simple leak that could have been solved with a new foam gasket, or a bead of silicone. The actual lamp housing had cracks & fractures at the fastener points. Maybe I have a heavy hand. Maybe heat expansion, since it's right on top of the roof in full sunlight all day. Doesn't matter. I am getting a new OEM lamp housing.
Make sure you get the revised part with thicker gasket. I got one on ebay several years ago and its been great. Genuine part and came from a Ford dealer service. I think mine was about half the list price.
I now see that there is a new part with a better gasket. The more important part now is the part no. for the revised part. It would really be really bad to order with the wrong part no., and get an old style 3rd brake light with a bad gasket.
