Rear view camera inside rear view mirror

Installed mirror that has built in 4in screen, tapped into 12v and ground for the main power under the dash, and tapped into reverse lights 12v/ground for camera power.

When i start the truck mirror is only a mirror. I can power the screen with On button on the mirror, and get No Signal, but Menu works and I can make adjustments to contrast, color, resolution, etc.

When I shift into reverse, camera powers up and works, clear picture inside mirror.

But, when I turn on the headlights, I lose signal from the camera (screen on the mirror is still powered, but no signal)?

I was reading something about backfeeding power, and that relay needs to be used? I presume this is all back by the hitch where I wired up camera 12v and ground

If you have it wired both ways I.e. (R) and by switch or button you’ll need a separate relay to prevent the back feeding. I had mine on the back up lights but decided I’d prefer having the option of turning the camera on anytime I want it on. The easiest way to determine what is going on would be to remove the power/ground from the back up lights and then see if everything works. I’m basing this on how my camera was /is wired up so your situation may be different.

Colorado I don't have a switch, main rearview screen is on ignition 12v circuit, and rearview camera power and ground is from reverse light circuit 6pin round plug at the back of the frame

Black/pink and brown wires

Sounds to me like the problem is your ground wire in the back. I would move that to the frame.

You are correct, moved ground off brown wire onto frame and now camera works with lights on! Thanks!

PS camera power is from black with pink tracer in the 6 pin round plug under the tailgate

Can you share model / make for the mirror that you installed?

I had one laying around the garage for years, not really happy with image quality, its pretty rudimentary, but another set of eyes always help. Night vision is pretty weak too. This is probably due to the age of the unit. If you look up Boyo rearview mirror reviews for newer ones, they are pretty good I think.
