Hello fellow members, I am new to the group live in South Texas. I just bought a 1950 Ford F2 V6. Wanted to jump right in and see if she will turnover. It was actually a gift from an uncle. He says it starts but hasnt tried it in a year. Spark plugs look like they can be replaced. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. Will post more pics
Welcome to FTE I am sure the guys on here can help you with any questions you have.
Now I am almost 100% sure you wanted to type v8 and not v6 as I have never seen a v6 in anything that old unless swapped in.
I guess it could be a flat head 6 but the picture is taken to close for me to tell.
From what I see it is a nice looking truck.
Try and turn the motor over by hand first because it is rusted you could pull the piston tops off the pistons.
May want to put a little light oil like WD-40 in each hole before trying by hand.
If there is any old gas in the tank do not try and start in on that junk as you can cause more issues. Drain the tank, clean it and check it for rust. If rusty they make kits to coat or line the insides with.
You can run it off a small fuel can with a long hose to it from the fuel pump on the motor.
You may also need to pull the carb for a good cleaning / rebuild and a new fuel pump & filter just to be safe.
So what are your plans with the truck? Just get it running & stopping and enjoy or build as a nice driver with maybe some mods or full on restore?

You might want to make sure the oil pump pick up screen isn't crudded up. If your truck is a V8 it should (?) have a large clean plate on the pan out that will allow you to check the pick up screen without dropping the pan. You can ruin a potential good runner by firing it up with no oil pressure due to a clogged pick up. JMO.
Welcome to FTE.
That appears to be a 226 CID flathead six cylinder engine. That would be a straight, inline cylinder configuration.
Go slow. Blow the debris from around the spark plugs and pull them. Pour a couple tablespoons of oil down each hole and attempt to turn the engine over by hand. If it turns thru by hand you're good to go to the next step. Just ask.
Maybe we can ask a mod to move this to the 48-56 forum.
welcome to fte.that is a good looking truck, congratulations on your purchase.like the guys said before you can get all the help that you need right here
Thanks for all the good information. Im new to this so i will go slow. It is a six cylinder flathead. I was calling part stores and having a hard time explaining that to them. I will post more pictures. My phone uploads them slow. Was this a common engine trying to do more research on it.
Located in Edinburg Texas. Forgot to post that. My uncle got it in north Texas with clean title out of Illinois. I was trying to change the title to my name and v told me i needed insurance. Waiting for DMV response.
The alternator is a modification. The truck originally had a six volt positive ground system with a generator. Any alternator bracketry is either aftermarket or home made. Check the V belt for bottoming out in the crankshaft drive pulley and the water pump. That water pump is not available as aftermarket or new. The thermostat housing is very scarce.

When you get settled, most of us list our locations on the upper right as we often find " Brethren" nearby.
Welcome aboard and nice truck! Post some more pics when you can. I won't swear to it from just the one pic of the outside, but it looks a whole lot like the truck/frame/bed have been shortened.
