Hey, guys. I ended up with an 88 F-250 X-cab and a C6. Just had the tranny rebuilt, too And I know what you mean with the High 1st gear. It sucked for me when I was just learning to drive, and I "borrowed" dad's truck when he was out of town to pull his boat (also "borrowed"). I ended up in low range 4x4 because at that point I still was an amateur with the clutch. Cheers
Originally posted by red_rocket the other HUGE problem with the mazda tranny is the ratios.. First gear is way to high to do any practical work. Reverse is also rediculously high. You have to shift the truck into low range to back up to a trailer..
Why ford geared it so these trucks will go 70mph in reverse is beond me..
Thats my only complaint with mine. I hate first gear, I can go 20 MPH before the shift to second. I never use 5th. Reverse is gear similar to first. Here is the ratios I found :
I'm on the second M5OD in my 93 and this one is about to give up (only 15K miles on a fresh rebuilt, nice eh?) I have a ZF waitin to go in winter break, can't wait.
