Can anyone tell me how the oil flows in and out of the valve chambers on a 226 H series? The reason I ask is that I am trying to clean up the sludge and lead out of the valve area before adjusting the valves.
I remember someone in another thread saying to make sure you have not plugged up the oil return holes however I can not seem to find where they are.
Hi Tom L,
Here is a picture of the 226 when I had it apart. The angle isn't best, so I put arrows pointing to the approximate location of the drains near the valve springs. Each chamber has one drain about 3/4" in diameter. I don't know if it works on total splash action to get oil both in and out of those holes. But I don't recall any holes above those drains to have it flow in.
Hope this helps,
Tom B.
Thanks Tom, that is exactly what I needed. The little C shape oil baffles are keeping them hidden.
By the way, that is one good looking engine. I seem to remember a video of you starting up the 226 after it had been sitting for many years. My project is somewhat the same, however I am guessing it sat for only 15 years. Now it runs pretty good. Going to keep it bone stock.
