Main leaf spring indents

Hey all

i have a 1979 f250 4x4 chassis with a 76 body on it.

noticed that i had a 2 cracked (one completely missing section) rear leaf springs the other day. ended up getting another set off a parts truck. on further inspection i noticed some indentation where the ubolt retainer plate would sit.

see attached pics. obviously they have seem some wear but would they have come with any indention from the factory or is this just from rust, i haven't taken my old ones off my truck yet. i am a little tight to buy brand new springs right now so i hoped these would get me by for the time being.

(also got some highboy front leafs as well, the seem to be in much better condition)

I don't believe I've ever seen a main leaf dimpled or dented or formed specifically for a top plate, or even done by a top plate under "normal" wear circumstances.
That looks to me like a combination of high mileage and high moisture taking their toll on the leaf. Basically rusted into that condition.

Just older springs that are pitting and worn down. Didn't come like that from factory.

X2 on them old ones of yours are worn out. And correct NO indention's for the top plate. Do not get all excited to early about them USED HB front leafs, they can look good and settle flat in no time. Did you see them installed on the truck they came off of and did it have a motor in it?

Good luck with them. A pic of ol blue with front HB leafs and the PO's idea to fix the problem of the front sump oil pan (swap in car 460) being hit by the front axle pumpkin due to the WORN OUT HB leafs. BLOCKS...block head. NOW has a proper lift, without blocks.
