Limited Slip Additive and Question
I have the rear end drained on my Ex and the cover has been on all night with the RTV curing. I need to fill it up I have done this before but I need advice.
The Ex has a limited slip rear end and I am using Mobil1 75W-140 for LS rear ends. I did purchase the Ford additive in case I need it. Here is the kicker: I have gotten stuck 3 times in the mud and the LS was not working one wheel was spinning so I am thinking too much additive was in there last time. How much should I put in to lessen chatter on turns but let the LS work?

There are certain things I do not mess with, rear differentials are one of them. I believe you are right. I will talk to my Ford buddy who owns a shop and see what he recommends and charges. I need him to also look at my power steering for a seep and to do a state inspection.

In a Superduty they only seem to last 50k from my experience, but it depends on turns under load, weight or acceleration. It got the truck sold at the dealership, but they are not the ideal. Some people state there are aftermarket plates that last better, or increasing the plate count. My preference would be a different type. I’ve had a Detroit Locker in a ‘66 Shelby I once owned, it worked extremely well but it’s a little ornery. From my viewpoint an electric locker would be the ideal for me, but maybe not if someone else were driving.

I would do what Jack said and only add a bit at a time.
When I did the change with the project truck that is how I dealt with it. I went out for a dive and hit some good curves and after a bit of driving
to warm things up and get the oil into the clutches I still had some popping so I just added about 1/4 dose from the Ford additive bottle.
Drove around again and rechecked on the curve that made the noise and all was quiet after than and the rear acted the way it should.
I am going to have to have the rear in the truck I am driveling worked on soon so that is also in the to do list. At a bit over $900.00 I need to plan for it.

I have the exhaust hanger on order from a dealer and it will be in tomorrow. Once I get it on and back on the ground I will take it for a ride and see if it chatters. Where I notice it the most is pulling a heavy trailer on right turns. The only reason I changed it this time was I used a gasket on the cover last time instead of RTV and it was seeping. I hate leaks!
