I thought the forum would enjoy the following "Stella Awards" named for Stella Liebeck. She was the woman who won $2.9 million from Mc Donalds for spilling hot coffee on herself.
1) January of 2000. Kathleen Robertson of Austin, Texas, was awarded $780,000 by a jury after breaking her ankle in a furniture store. You see a little kid was running amuck, unsupervised, and tripped Ms Robertson. The little fellow was Ms Robertsons own son!
2) June 1998. Carl Truman of Los Angeles won $74,000 plus MEDICAL expenses when his neighbor ran over his hand while Mr Truman was attempting to steal his neighbor's hubcaps!
3) Terrance Dickinson, of Bristol, Pa. was awarded $500,000. for undue mental anguish for becomming trapped in the garage of a house he was attempting to rob. The garage door opener was not working and the door to the inside of the house locked behind him as he exited into the garage after looting the house. He existed on Pepsi and dog food until the owner returned to be sued by him!
4) Amber Carson won $113,000 from a Philadelphia restaurant after she slipped on a spilled soft drink and broke the lower most bones in her spine known as the coccyx. he beverage was on the floor because she thhrew it at her boyfriend 30 second prior to her fall!
5) Jerry Williams of Little Rock Ar, was awarded $14,500 after being bitten on the buttocks by his neighbor's fenced in and chained up beagle dog. They jury felt the the dog may have been provoked by Mr Williams who was reapetedly shooting the dog with a pellet gun!
This is why we have a crazy over crowded court system and insurance rates rocketing skyward. Anyone know of any other settlements that meet the Stella Awards criteria? What do you think of this lunacy?
