Parking brake cable length?

I'm having a problem finding the correct length front cable for a 1965 long bed. My old one off my 66 is to long (both trucks are long bed F250's 2x4's).

MPC says approx. 98" long

C5TZ-2853-P - CABLE and CONDUIT - PARKING BRAKE FRONT - 65/66 - F100/250 (4 x 2) - Approx. 98" long

There are some on eBay as well as at the vendors.

I have a 98" with 43" housing and it's about 10" to long. Seems this the only one offered for 65-66. I have another one that is 85" with 37" housing that is to short. looking at the 2 trucks the mounting for the housing brackets are in different spot on the frame.

I have another one that is 85" with 37" housing that is too short (C6TZ-2853-B = 1966 F100 4WD).

Thanks Bill. I am going to move the bracket to use the shorter cable. 3 inches should do it. It still doesn't solve the problem of a replacement cable. This all started when the last owner took out the hand operated one for a foot type from a 67 on up.

As you can tell, the foot operated brake takes a different cable than any pre-made part. You have a unique set up and there is no part number you can use to match it. You can use one of your pre-exisitng cables to mock up the setup you need, then have a new cable custom made, or modify the mounting to accomodate the cable you have. Post again if you want a source for a new custom cable...that’s what I did when I mounted a foot actuated brake froma ‘74 into my 66. It will cost about $50 to $60 plus shipping.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm taking that foot pedal out and putting the hand one back in.

I believe the long and short bed trucks use the same cable. Only the long beds get an extender about a foot or so long. I had one if I can find it I will post a picture. I bet TA455HO has a picture of a new one.

Same front cable regardless of wheelbase, correct.

For the rear mine is a little different than some since it is the 1966 F250 Camper Special (same as Heavy Duty H/D brakes) with the 12" x 2 1/2" Bendix BX brakes. So mine used these part numbers which would be different than the 1965 F250 and 1966 F250 with the 12 1/8" x 2" brakes. I believe only the F100 long wheelbase used the extenders, but I'd have to research a bit more to refresh my memory.

66 - F250 (4 x 2) - H/D & Camper (12" x 2 1/2" BX brakes)

C6TZ-2A635-H - CABLE ASSY. - PARKING BRAKE REAR - R. H. - approximately 74 1/32" long - Red - 1 each

C6TZ-2A635-G - CABLE ASSY. - PARKING BRAKE REAR - L. H. - approximately 67 17/32" long - Black - 1 each

For anyone reading this in the future I've only ever found the one set of these. None at any of the NOS vendors that I can find.

Thank for all the help guys. I moved the housing bracket back 3 inches and all is good. The next question is where to get a new 85" cable with 37" housing?

I do and it does work but it is old as dirt and sticky. I tried to flush it out which did help but still not free flowing.
