Steering Gear Differences

I pulled the steering box out of my ‘59 F250 4x4 and it’s pretty loose. The casting number on the box is 4CC39. I have a good box out of a ‘58 F350 2wd that’s has a casting number 4CC25. I’ve read that the 4x4 box is different than the 2wd but they look identical. Does anyone know if I’m ok to use the ‘58 2wd box in the ‘59 4x4?

Not the same!

B9TT-3504-A .. Steering Gear Box (no housing casting number listed) / Obsolete

1959/60 F100/250 4WD
---------------------------
B7Y-3504-A .. Steering Gear Box - Housing casting number: 4CC25 / Obsolete

1957/58 F350/600 / 1959 F350 except with Saginaw steering box / 1959/60 F500/600 / 1960 F350.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
F100/250 4WD uses the same steering shaft as F350 (B7Y-3524-A), but the 4WD's sector shaft (B7T-3575-C) is different than the F350 sector shaft (B7Y-3575-A).

The steering shaft bearings (2) and upper/lower cups (1 ea), sector shaft bushings (2) are the same for both.

All 1953/78 F350's are 2WD, 1979 was the first year that F350's were available with 4WD // If a 1953/78 F350 has 4WD, it's an aftermarket conversion.

Thanks again NumberDummy! So is it safe to say that if my pitman arm fits on the ‘58 2wd box I’m good to go?

The Pitman Arm attaches to the sector shaft, but as I said in post #2, the 4WD sector shaft is different than the F350.

So I measured everything up and the sector shaft is identical. However, the mounting plate is slightly different. One hole won’t line up. Nothing a drill can’t fix.
