Put your kid to work waxing and rubbing the rest of the truck until it shines. Then repaint the tailgate, all of it. It's the wrong color and the paint scheme is wrong. You also need the chrome strip that goes across the tailgate, maybe two. Paint the raised "FORD" black to get a custom touch.
It's "patina" if it doesn't look like the vehicle was pieced together from a junkyard. If it does, it just looks junkyard. If it was all the same color and the paint was about gone in one area then waxing over the top would be cool.
I wish I could find my Bright Dark Blue Metallic in rattle cans. I'll bet 20 years ago, I still could've.
If you go down to a local body shop supply store they can use your paint code and will mix some 2K paint and put it into a spray can with built-in hardener. About $25-30 a can or so. Can has a big red button on the bottom. Just before spraying, you take the cover off the bottom of the can and smack the red button. This releases the hardener. Now you have nice proper hardening paint in the color you want. If you have a color code they can look it up.

REALLY????
SO...... can they do this at a place like O'Rileys? They are about the only decent place with automotive paint around our little po-dunk town.
Spray cans I got at the local auto body paint supply store.
They were also offloading some old cans of "Ford Blue" spray paint for 99cents. Snagged one. Of COURSE I was lazy and didn't paint my new water pump when I put it in...derp. Now it's all rusted looking already
I haven't used this paint yet , gotta wait for warmer weather and also do prep work. The red "button" on the bottom , you take off the bottom cap, put that red button on a small pin, then smack it. That releases the internal hardener cartridge contents. Then shake for a few minutes, and spray. Boom, proper professional auto paint with hardener. Now, it may still not work as good as an actual spray gun since with those you can compensate for humidity, etc. But at least it will be the more durable paint.
