Hello guys I'll give y'all a little bit of info on the truck it is a 2003 Ford f350 with the 6.0 Powerstroke it has the stock tubo and never has had work done to the turbo. The catalytic converter was gutted out and I recently cut of the muffler and straight piped it it has an EGR delete and no tune. The turbo isn't as loud as it's supposed to be my friend has an 07 6.0 just straight piped and it sounds like a jet and I was told that mine should sound like a jet since it has the 03 VGT 10 vane Garrett turbo and those are known to sound like jets when straight piped. Have any of you guys encountered this problem and if so what did you do to fix it? Truck seems to run fine.

 

 

Is your VGT working? Does the truck lack power? Any codes related to boost issues?

 

I was told Turbo's with a loud whistle are about to go out. Properly operating turbos should not be excessively loud.

I had one replaced in a 6.0L and the replacement was very quiet. The tech told me because the new turbos were Teflon coated on the blades for quietness and longevity.

 

6.0Mike03 - If you want it loud like a jet engine taking off clean all the soot out of it. Ford has a Turbo Recondition kit that has all the seals and abrasive disks to get the job done right. The 03 VGT turbo is really loud because of the exhaust turbine blades in it. It only has 11 blades if I remember correctly vs most of the other 04.5 and up 6.0 VGT turbos have a different exhaust turbine so boost and sound are very different from an 03
