Greetings from wild and windy Buffalo. I'm not complaining mind you. But we've had about two feet of drifting snow since Friday and another foot is on it's way for tonight. Couple that with single digit temps and 35 mph sustained winds, it should be a hoot. But then again, you can't shovel a wildfire, hurricane, earthquake or flood.
Anyways, on to today's question. In the course of the restoration of my 61 F100 flareside 4x2 shortbed I have managed to lose, butcher or break a number of screws and bolts. I see that bolt kits are available for fenders, boxes, beds and bumpers etc. I'm looking for interior screws, specifically door and window stuff.
The question is coming really, I promise. Is anyone aware of a table or index that cross references screw type, thread, length etc by part number. I'm not one of those people that can identify a screw' s characteristics simply by looking at it. Same goes for socket sizes. God I hate those people. I could spend the rest of my life looking through drawers at local stores without finding what I need. It would be cool if there was a list of standard hardware sizes I would encounter so I can stock up.
Finally. I continue to be amazed at the skill and willingness to help from members if this forum. I frequent a bunch of forums and user groups. You folks are as helpful and dedicated as any I've dealt with.
I've been doing the research but I don't have a single list of everything yet. But, the Master Parts Catalog does go into the details of much of the hardware.
For example, the inside rear view mirror, visor arms and visor clips all use the same screw.
52369-S13 (U304) - Screw-oval head, cross recess-No. 10-12 x 7/8"
Thanks Chad. I haven't spent enough time in my master parts manual. Didn't realize that this info was included in there. A great resource if I use it correctly
A lot of door hardware use 12-24 screws, which are obsolete in the industry.
10-24 won't hold, though you may be able to re-tap for 1/4-20.
I found some 12-24 at a local industrial fastener shop, might be a thought.
There are also some of the specialty fastener manufacturers that sell a reproduction. This is the correct size for the door latch remote (the piece that the inner door handle hooks to) and I believe the window regulator, which are both the 12 - 24 x 1/2". My originals have a bit of a recessed head, not just flat, so these are not 100% visually correct to me, but they should function fine.
