Hi, I just bought a 67 F100. It has power drum front brakes that I'd like to convert to disc. Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for in a donor vehicle to do a swap?
Check out the tech articles, and/or use the search function using "disc swap" as your search parameters. You will find a plethora of information.
BTW, the quick answer is - any truck up to and including 79 (of the same type - in other words, I would not use a 250 for a donor if I was swapping into an F100)
I have located a suitable axle from a 79 bronco here but the yard guy tells me that I should switch the entire front axle, then change the steering box to a 2WD box, as the steering movement will change with the new axle.(side to side vs front to back)
I have looked at the instructions posted on how to change a 67 over, but they are for a 2WD, which is considerably different.
Does anyone have detailed instructions for a 4WD application? My truck has coil springs & a solid front axle.
Thanks
Stacey

Why not use F250 front end parts on a F100? Are the parts not interchangeable? I have wondered if it is practical to switch to discs by finding a 71-72 F250 w/discs and swapping spindles, etc. to get a decent system. Is this just for 4x4’s, or all 67-72’s? Are front-end parts drastically different to where parts won't interchange between series? I'm not trying to start an argument, because I sure don't know. I'm curious as to what prevents this from being a solution. Just saying it doesn't work does not help me understand why. I realize that a F250 is a heavier duty truck, but I was wondering if there wouldn't be enough parts in common to where this might be possible. Are the front-end geometries vastly different? Wider track, different relationship of components, etc?
If someone can shed some light on this I would appreciate it.
Most F250's used an 8 lug wheel, where as the F100's used 5. Unless you're planning on swapping the rear end as well, you'll have to lug around 2 spare's with you.
Sorry, Stacey - you didn't mention that you had a 4x4 or a solid axle. I just assumed you had 2x4 and I-beams.
dotcentral - Besides the lug pattern difference, I understand from one of the posts here that the kingpins are slightly different sizes - but I wouldn't bet anything that I wanted to keep on it. Maybe someone else can clarify. If you are swapping in the whole front end (I-beams, spindles, radius arms, etc) it is my understanding that it will bolt up and work fine - however, you are back to 8 lugs on the front and 5 on the back unless you swap the back out as well. I wouldn't mix and match simply because it takes this kind of question out of the equation - doesn't mean it can't or hasn't been done.
