2007 Expedition shifter locked

2007 Expedition shifter locked
My 2007 Expedition will not shift out of park. The ignition turns on smooth with no issues, the brake lights work but the shifter lever will not compress all of the way to take it out of park. I have had to use the emergency shift lock release all day to get it into reverse/drive. Any ideas on what else it could be or how to fix it? Thanks.
