Factory tach

Looking to see if anybody is interested in parting with a factory tach for a bullnose. My smoked! I know they are hard to find. Thanks. Already posted in marketplace, but thought I’d post here too.

If you can't find a used one for a reasonable price, you can get your existing one repaired (and upgraded).

There’s an excellent thread around about cleaning them - it may be in the stickies. Have you performed the other testing to verify the harness and printed circuit is good?

I also had a dead tach. I was looking at the RC page too but happened upon an 80 cluster in the JY for $40. Plugged it in and it actually had a working tach.

I do recall th the 80 (and maybe 81) have a different pin out at the harness plug, so swapping complete clusters with something later requires some reconfiguring, but I assume the tachs are all the same.

I went to Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market and plugged in your truck and pretended I was looking for a front fender in New Jersey. The following junkyards say they have a fender. Looks like about 5 or 6 yards MIGHT have one of these trucks in the yard, and one of those MIGHT have a tach. I think it would be worth calling and checking.1986

I had the same thing a few years ago while working on the timing............I temporarily connected an aftermarket tach under the hood to the coil, in reverse polarity, & it fried the truck tach (although the aftermarket one survived). Fortunately nothing else suffered.

Yes sir, this stuff is creeping up in price. I bought a whole 1984 tach cluster a little more than a year ago for $75 USD (Ebay) and right now, they're in the $120-$200 range on Ebay.

I very rarely ever see a Bullnose tach for sale all by itself...it's usually the whole cluster or nothing at all. A tach was a rare option around here...I haven't found one in an old Bullnose yet, and I've looked at dozens of them.

I recently grabbed a mint gas cluster (w/4500 RPM tach) from a junked 1985 F800 Fire Truck. I didn't actually need the thing for anything other than a possible future 300/6 project.

just take yours out then apart and clean all the old brown glue off and put back in 9 out 10 that's why it has quit working,, could also be a dark yellow glue look.. not making a good connection ,,be careful of the needle though no need to take it off though ,,takes about 30 min to do.. brown glue easy to do the yellow look a little harder, just use rubbing alcohol and a Qtip and scape it off.. also check your green wire off the dizzy to see if it has came loose or if your circuit board has a burn spot on it ,,I wouldn't just go and buy one yet till I did these thing's but i'm betting cleaning it will work..i take bad ones that some think are and fix them that way and BAM I have another that's good to go..
