Rear Suspension LLS

Greetings to all. I’m a new forum member. Thought I’d share my recent experience with my 1997 Eddie Bauer Expedition 4 wheel drive and LLS.

While I was driving it, noticed that the rear end was going sort of side to side (like the wonderful way a woman’s hips move when walking down the street) and the rear suspension felt harder than usual.

After getting off, did not see anything unusual … did not notice that there was no space between the top of the rear tires and the rear fender well … that tells you how little attention I give my car ... But when I looked at the car from a distance did notice that the car sat slanted to the rear.

Inspected all the fuses under the dashboard and under the hood, noticed that the compressor was running all the time … run for 30 secs, stop for 20 secs and repeat … Listened for air leaks, but heard none. Inspected the rear LLS sensor, but did not notice anything unusual about it. Noticed that the rear air bags (“rear shock absorbers”) were at their lowest point (bottomed).

After looking a many posts in this great forum, I decided to start with the easiest possible fix: disconnected the negative battery cable overnight. Next morning, after reconnecting the battery cable, the rear air bags filled with air and everything is back to normal for the past 2 weeks.

One thing I could not find was the “inline plastic coupler” that supposedly is somewhere under the air filter housing. I saw 2 black hoses (about ½” diameter) running along the top edge of the left fender and under the right-most part of the air cleaner intake ... was able to follow one of the hoses back to the compressor ... but didnot find the coupler. Can anyone on the forum be so kind as to point where else this inline coupler could be?
