Windshield washer malfunction?

I pressed the washer button yesterday in my 2017 4 wheel drive F250 here in the frozen tundra of CT when the temp was -2. No washer fluid was forthcoming. I was irritated but just figured I would look at it when it warmed up a bit. Today I thought it acted as if it was frozen. Then it hit me: I was in the FL Keys last month and had the oil changed. One of the services performed was topping off the other fluids. They don’t use washer fluid with antifreeze properties! The same thing had happened to me when I lived in southern CA and drove to New England back in the 90’s. Sure enough it got warmer and the washer worked just fine. Guess I will drain the washer fluid reservoir and fill it with appropriate stuff. Had to laugh!

Oddly enough my dealer in Colorado seems to water down the washer fluid they use. They pop your hood and drag a big unmarked jug of very light blue liquid over and then fill it up. Took me a while to figure out what was going on but when I finally did I installed a strap over the top of the washer fluid reservoir cap with a tag on it that says “DO NOT TOP OFF”. That did the trick and now I just grab my own washer fluid at Wally World. It’s the little things that can just ruin your day!

Same thing happened to me when I was in the Keys (too) and had some work done on the mainland. I caught on in time and drained it.

I got really **** when I was using some fluid at about -10°F and it froze on my windshield blinding me. My guess is that it was a combination of crappy blue stuff and evaporation at ~55MPH that did the trick. No more crappy blue stuff.
