Flipped to Ford

I just bought my first Ford Truck and have been reading the forum for a few weeks. I’ve learned a 3/4 ton already lol. Finally decided to register to get help and hopefully helps others. I’m coming from a 2008 Silverado 1500 Z71 5.3L LT Black. Only owner of the truck and still have it. 165,000 miles and still runs great after a tranny swap at 150k.

I was all set to wait for the redesigned Chevrolet and then decided to get a 2500 for the additional tow capacity. Well the 2500 redesign is a year after the 1500. I was tired of waiting after 11 years with the same truck and was impressed with my Dad’s 2016 F150 Platinum enough to buy a Ford. I had a bad experience with my wife’s 2008 Expedition but I think Ford is currently making a better truck.

The expedition had what I thought and my Ford dealer thought was a locked up 5.4L motor. They wanted like 8k to do a motor swap and the thing was only worth 10k before it locked up. So I towed it home and pulled the motor. Timing chain needed work and it felt very tight to turn when out of the vehicle so I sent it to a machine shop. Had it rebuilt. Stuck it back in the vehicle and it was still locked up. Pulled the motor again and found the torque converter was locked up the whole time, not the motor. Oh well. Lesson learned. The thing I hated about the job was how little room there was to work under the hood. Knuckle buster special... My 5.3L Silverado has room under the hood for days. Heck I could probably crawl in the engine bay and close the hood. No problem getting to spark plugs, starter.

Anyway that wasn’t the only problem I’ve had with that 2008 Expedition and every time I work on it I curse Ford. But I figured hey if I buy a new truck I won’t have to work on it for years anyway.

So so I got a 2019 F250 STX Oxford White, 6.2L, FX4, 4.30 Rear, Sync 3, Ultimate Tow Camera, Power Equipment Package, and a few other options.

I love the truck so far. Lots of payload. Rated to tow 14,000 lbs. and already towed that weight. Exceeded expectations. No carpet is great.

So far.... I’ve added a B&W Turnover Ball GN hitch and plug in the bed for the GN trailer. I ceramic tinted the windows 15% all the way around (truck came without privacy glass). I ordered a set of Wet Okole seat covers that I’m waiting on.

Thoughts on the future:

Add keypad to door. I know this will be worth the trouble one day.

When my tires are due for replacement i want to put 37s on it but I HATE LEVELING KITS. I know this is unpopular but half the trucks I see don’t look level and the truck looks lower in the back than the front. And I don’t want to squat more when I tow. When I tow that’s when I want to be close to level. Most of the trucks I see look like they’re squatting even when unloaded and I think it looks awful. No offense to anyone I know I’m in the minority here. Most think the front being lower looks bad but I prefer it. So any suggestions on a lift kit that will lift the front and back equally are great appreciated.

I want to use the upfitter switches. Need to decide what to use them on.

Love my truck so far and I’ll post pics when I get some daylight. Looks so much better with the windows tinted. Happy to be converted to Ford so far as I get a grin on my face everytime I get behind the wheel. I considered the diesel but according to the specs it was overboard unless you get a DRW and a CDL License. Maybe one day when the extra money means nothing to me.

Love the forum. Great content in here. My name is Denny. I know there is a good fella around here already with that name.

Congrats on the new truck! I recently got a similar truck to yours and I guess I'm also in the minority where I like the slight nose down attitude rather than the other way around. Actually my truck seems pretty level to me. I'm old school and have messed around with old hod rod Mustangs and Fairlanes since I was a kid and always liked the front a bit lower than the back.
Anyway, enjoy your new toy.

Thanks I’m still getting used to her but it’s great to be able to get a truck like this for a reasonable price. I just can’t justify a Platinum or even a Lariat. I like my truck somewhat simple. I keep trucks for a long time and the more electronics you add the more headaches I would expect in 8-10 years. There were some features I wanted and didn’t get. It was hard enough to find a truck with 4.30 gears. Couldn’t get too picky after that. Everytime I see a Black or Magnetic truck I get jealous. But I’m not a wash it every week kind of guy anymore. Too much work to do and too many fish to catch.

Welcome to the Super Duty club. Like you, I despise a truck that has a rear end sitting lower than the front. If anything I like a little rake the opposite way in case of heavy load. When I was a kid in the 80's we were all putting air shocks on the rear of our cars to get that rake.
I went with a larger tire but not a 37. My 325's are 34.6 and I have no problems with tire rub on the front mud flaps at any steering wheel position. And I didn't have to (never would anyway) spend money on a lift or level.

Congrats on the truck!
I just picked up my first Ford, too. Coming from close to the same truck. '08 Chevy 1500 WT. It had 115k miles on it, and was falling apart.

im the same as you. every level truck i see looks like its sqautting. you may have to piece together your own lift kit so you can get the desired rake you want. i prefer about 2" but you may want something else

Yeah I may just put 35s on it and be happily ever after. Lifting a truck is not a good idea if you can avoid it. Unless it’s a just an off-road toy. People that lift their daily driver trucks just so it will look cooler are a bit silly to me. Waste of money and a good truck imo. But I’m also not here to tell people how to spend their money. If you want to look cool go for it. But I need to tow heavy, commute, drive on the beach, etc. If I wanted a mud bogger I’d just lift my old truck and use that.
