Just in case anyone is shopping for a battery for their truck, I bought a super cheap (less than $50) Walmart Value Power Battery 65 group size over a year ago and it's still working great. It's rated at 650 CCA. The battery in this truck gets used pretty hard, it is used in a lot of short trip driving in the summer and it sits for long periods in the winter. We've had cold temperatures for a while already but now that there is salt on the roads, I probably won't drive the truck until spring, so I pulled it out of the truck yesterday to bring inside and put on a tender. Before I brought it in I load tested it and it tested perfect. So for $50 I can't complain. I'm not sure who makes them for Walmart, I'd guess Johnson Controls maybe. Anyways it gets a thumbs up from me.
I've never purchased any Wal-Mart automotive batteries but my Uncle runs one in his truck and likes it. Don't know who makes the batteries on the east side of the states but JCI makes the EverStart batteries on the west side.
Most of the time they are relabeled quality batteries. I worked at Wallyworld when I was in college and they showed up on an Exide truck. Very possible they are manufactured by someone else now, but I think there are only 4 or 5 main manufacturers that actually make batteries.
The 'ValuePower' WalMArt brand of batteries are relabeled Johnson Control units (JCI) as stated above. Great batteries for the money. Ran them in all of my trucks until I got rid of the trucks.
Motor craft batteries are made by Johnson Controls. Some I've had have lasted at least 10 years. I know the Everstart batteries are made by JC. And, about the same price as MotorCraft.. There were Everstart Maxx batteries in 2 cars I bought that were 8 years old. Just charged them and working fine a year later.
I've been using those since they came out in various vehicles without a failure, They are made by johnson controls in my area. Not a problem yet, a great deal for a $50 battery.
I have a couple Walmart value batteries that came out of a diesel. They were less than a year old and didn't really cut it in the diesel. One of them has been in my '91 with the 460 for months now. Every now and again it sounds a little weak. I think you get what you pay for with batteries. Walmart is convenient but I don't think I would buy anything but their best for $50 more.
But I know it is a tank of gas and sometimes every little bit helps.
I've never had Wal Mart batteries. A few friends of mine used to buy them with few problems but haven't heard much recently. That price is nice. I like to get highest cranking amps possible.
I've had Autocraft 65-2 with 850 CCA batteries from Advance in a few of our vehicles most of the time over the years. Recently in the past few years had more 65-2 failures than should have. All 3 of them only lasted about 2 years and were all replaced for free. Previously had no problems with these batteries for 4 or 5 years mist of the time.
Also had 2 Mororcraft batteries only last a couple years.
Johnson Controls makes both of these as far as I know.
Trying a Super Start from Oreilly in my Mustang. I believe these are Deka.
Walmart is also really good at replacing batteries, no questions asked. I had an Everstart Maxx in one of my cars fail prematurely (was probably my fault tbh) but I kept the receipt, took it to Walmart and they said go grab a new one. No pro-rated BS or anything like that.
