So I locked all the doors on my new to me cc F250 when i left it overnight, and when I came back to unlock it, the rear passenger door will not open, the lock mechanism comes up like it should "unlock" but the door won't open from the inside or the outside! I'm kinda lost on how I am supposed to get the door open.
I tried several times...nothing, the truck has been sitting for a year so it's hopefully just gunked up or something. Thanks for the attachment, definitely will be following that closely.
Sounds like a broken latch cable.
You will need to get the door panel off to access the cable itself.
There may be no good way to remove the door panel without breaking it.
The whole cable assembly is still available, but if the cable is still intact there is a replacement end piece that works great and is much cheaper. You will usually also need to replace the clips that hold the cable to the handle assembly.
There are several Youtube videos that show how to do it.
Ok, the lock pull goes straight down on a steel rod, almost to the bottom of the door. There it meets a pivot point and converts the vertical pull to a horizontal one that is attached to another metal rod that goes to the locking mechanism. The horizontal rod is inside the door and as mentioned goes to the lock. To get the panel off there’s two IIRC 7mm bolts. One is behind the window switch, the other is towards the rear under a plastic reflective plastic. I can’t recall if you can get to them with the door closed. But then the panel lifts straight up. If my window motor shows up tomorrow I’ll see if I can get the panel off with the door closed. I’ll report back...
EDIT: You may be able to stick the straw of a silicone or WD40 can inside the weather strip at the bottom of the window where it meets the door at the rear of the door. I would angle the straw towards the back of the truck and basically soak the locking mechanism. You can even try an electrical cleaner or engine degreaser (Walmart’s Supertech foams up great) basically something that will get in and start to dissolve the dust and grease.
Be careful if you’re trying to manipulate the lock with the lock pull you do not want to bend that rod, The pivot point that I referred to earlier can get some slop in it I put an E clip behind the washer to take up some of the slop in my door.
