Stemming from **** question, location so it can be compared(weather), original owner(maybe used as hotshot/car hauler)..etc. Reason being, my l99 soent about 6mon when new, in Az. The rest has been so cal. My 02 was an Az lifer until last christmas and has a 5er hitch..(resealed hpop thus far), (nothing for l99)...just spitballing/comparing Pete but neither has cup replacement
Another "never". At least on anything I personally own[ed].
283K, 264K, 190K, and I didn't replace them in the 95K-mile heads during the last rebuild for the Crown Vic.
The 2000 has 283K on it and I've had 4 sets of injectors in it. Original cups. I got it at 196K.
The 1995 (264K) had 3 remans in it when I got it (the rest were original) and I installed a full set of reman AAs in it a few weeks ago. Original cups. I got it at 110K.
The engine in the 1973 has 190K on the original cups and injectors. I bought the donor at 181K but know the original owner.
The Crown Vic cups are now at 100K miles. The engine those heads came off of was used hard and abused....but it had an AIS filter so the valve seats were like new.
I've done five or six sets for other people. Then again, after owning many 7.3L Powerstrokes for many years and hundreds of thousands of miles, I've never had a cam sensor failure either.
We have 9 7.3L pickups where I work. They are all 180K-240K miles and again, no cups or cam sensors. Glow plug relays, oil cooler o-rings, and fuel bowl heaters are about it.
What might be instructive to include with a poll on having to replace injector cups would be what the coolant chemistry history of that engine was, if known.
We're getting too many variables to track without a nesting of multiple polls. I don;t have the time at the moment, but will mull over how to configure the polls. It would be a good exercise and could offer some fascinating information, but I'm not sure how much any of us will actually benefit from digging too deeply.
I thought of including "never", but that doesn't include a mileage statement. "Never " with only 100K miles does not carry the same value as "never" with >400K miles. I think I can close the gap with a second poll asking just "never" or "yes", and I'll start that one now as well. I am also in the "never" group and am currently at 304K miles.
