Gremlins
I’m having an issue with my ‘99 250 super duty. Friday night, leaving work, my idiot lights were on, on the dash ( key was in my hand ). I tried starting it and it just cranked. Tried this 3 or 4 times. I then disconnected the positive terminals to both batteries for about 1 minute, reconnected and it fired right up.
It drove just just fine all the way home. Parked, turned the key off, and it wouldn’t shut off. Tried pulling the battery terminals, and it continued to run ( I know, it’s supposed to ). But nothing I did would shut it down. Finally, in desperation, I kicker over the starter and it turned off. Waited for a few minutes, reconnected the batteries and again the idiot lights came on without the key. Turned it over, but again wouldn’t shut down. Kicked over the starter again to shut it down. Disconnected both batteries.
Went out this morning, connected the batteries, and it’s still acting like the key is on. I did/do have a water intrusion issue. From my research, and my buddies, I know the GEM could cause the dash lights issue, but could it cause the refusal to turn off as well?
Thanks, from the FNG
Also, pay attention to all grounds. One of the largest cause of electrical gremlins is bad grounds.
This means to check all the underhood grounds, (primary wire grounds or the small wires and the secondary wires or the large battery cable).
