The C6 trans is a three-speed unit capable of providing automatic upshifts and downshifts through the three forward gear ratios. The trans is also capable of providing manual selection of first and second gears.

If you manually put the C-6 in 2nd, it will start out in second and I believe it will hold that gear until you move the selector to Drive. I don't know if there is a pressure override that will make it shift to the next gear. The GM T-350 and 400 would hold a gear until it overrode and then bang into the next gear even if you had manually selected 1st or 2nd.
