Van turbo 1.0 housing

I have a van turbo because it’s a non intercooled 2001 van. I want to get rid of the 1.15 housing and install a 1.0, do I order the housing for a 99.5-03 turbo or the obs year trucks? I’m going to pair it with a WW2 wheel and the new kc exhaust wheel. I’m hoping to get better boost for my normal driving needs. I don’t anything other than tow a 2 dirt bike trailer so I’m not worried about high EGT’S. VAN IS A 4X4 conversion with 160/30 injectors and 1023 tuning. My egt’s are about 850 cruising down the highway at 70 on flat ground 3-4 pounds boost at 2050 rpm flat ground. Can anyone provide a part number so I get it right?

99.5-03 SD turbine housings will not fit a Van turbo. The turbine in the Van turbo is 2mm larger than the Super Duty. I have a Van turbo and have tried to find a 1.0AR myself with no luck. One thing you can do is buy a 1.0AR housing for a 99.5-03 and send it to a machine shop to open it up larger to fit. Try calling around to some of the bigger 7.3 shops and they might have something that fits. The Non-WG 1.0 99.5-03 housings are pretty expensive too. IMO the 1.15 isnt too bad to live with.

If you get a SD turbine and 99.5-03 housing they will work together. You are trading for a smaller turbine wheel though.

It also takes a larger downpipe flange.

See I thought they were all the same turbo other than exhaust Housing size. I thought the stock van flange adapter would bolt on to 1.0 housing just reverse of what all the truck guys do when they bolt on a van turbo

If it is a non-waste gate housing the Van adapter will bolt on. Will take machining to get the turbine to fit still. Unless you can find a 1.0 for a Van, if you can let me know. Lol

I believe you could do that yes. Not sure it would be worth the $400+ dollars for the new housing and the KC/SXE turbine over what you already have. If you want some better spool you might just try the KC/SXE turbine and a new compressor wheel and just keep the 1.15 housing. (I'm building a van turbo and that is what my combination will be.)

I guess I wasn't totally aware either the van turbine was bigger than the truck. I put the van turbine I have next to the KC/SXE I'm going to use and it is almost impossible to eyeball it with a tape measure. They both appear to be around 75mm across. Maybe a tick bigger on the van. They both seem to have about the same wiggle room inside of the 1.15 housing...maybe a tiny bit more with the KC. I'll take my truck turbo apart at some point just out of curiosity and see what happens trying to put the van turbine into the .84 A/R housing.

So what your saying is it will work for sure with a kc/sxe wheel and a 1.0 housing. It sounded like the kc adds topend so I was hoping to pick up more bottom end with the 1.0 and get a better running motor throughout the entire rpm range. It’s tough with a van as there aren’t many people modifying them so not much information for me to scavenge

Just make sure you get the correct size turbine wheel for the housing. The Van turbo takes the 95-97 turbine wheel if it is 1.15. If it is a 99-03 housing it takes the smaller turbine.

It should work with any of the housings since it was made to drop into the truck turbo but maybe call or email them just for fun. It supposedly helps spool faster as well.

I talked with Clay at Riff Raff and he said the 1.0 non wastegate housing and a 99-03 kc sxe wheel would work so I ordered it. I’ll post back the results once installed
