I was driving down a mountian road, and alluva sudden my 72 250 w/390 4v makes a loud boom combined with a severe chain braking noise kinda noise (like when you haul on a huge chain with a bulldozer, that kinda chain breaking noise)... It was still running fine so I got out and looked under expecting to see a broken drive shaft or something horrible... But all was well, got back in and kept on going.

what happened?? any ideas? I'm stumped

The same thing happened to me a few months ago, I ended up running over a muffler laying in the road. Whoops!

I never looked that close, I was just making sure everthing was still intact and strait. No vibrations or nothing happened after the fact... so I assumed every thing was good to go and haven't looked under since..... I should take a close look just in case.

Thanks for the replys,
