2000 ranger engine breaking down over 3k rpm's
I have a elm scan tool and the forscan app but no codes are showing.
Edit to add that I ran two bottles of Techron but no joy.
Is the cut out happening on the road when your accelerating under load, or at rest when your revving the engine? If its happening when not moving & revving the engine, you may be bumping the ECM rev limiter, programmed in there to prevent no load engine over speed & having it come unraveled.
If its happening while driving & getting close to, or going through this rpm range, then a number of things come on the suspect list & pending, or set trouble code clues will help define where best to focus your trouble shoot.
Seeing as how you say your 3.0L is a flex fuel engine & its a "waste spark" ignition system, did you use the Specified plugs, wires, coil pack, fuel pump & filter?
Have you checked your work, to make sure the plug wires are routed exactly as the factory had them & that they're still securely fastened ?
Have you raised the hood at night & revved the engine to that level while looking for arcs & sparks from the plugs, wires & coil pack, or given them a "wet down" test, to see if you may have faulty, or damaged insulation?
Have you performed a fuel pressure & delivery rate test, to make sure fuel pressure is up to snuff & that the pump & fuel lines are able to deliver enough fuel Volume at higher rpm? (thinking maybe a mashed, or kinked fuel line or hose. or maybe a faulty gas cap not properly venting the tank to equalize the pressure, or something like that) Anyway trouble code clues will tell you where best to look next. Let us know what you find.
