Hdpp payload
So today, I took a trip to the landfill. I have a 2016 F150 SCLB, HDPP, 5.0 3.73 4x4, 301A.
not loaded out at all. Yellow door tag says 2520 lbs. I have a Ford soft tonneau cover, aftermarket 20s with 275/65/20 BFG KO2s,
Back seat removed for more room for my 100 lb golden retriever and 110 lb chocolate lab. Center seat exchanged for a full console... console much lighter than the jump seat! With the wife and I in the truck, no dogs, nothing in the bed, 36 gallon tank at 3/4, my truck weighed in at 2650 kg... or 5842.25lbs. 7850gvw- 5842.25= 2007.75lbs.
I figure my tounge weight is around 850. My wife, me and 2 dogs is 560, and then the kicker.... my Polaris Rzris right around 1200 lbs, which I haul in the bed, the whole reason I got an 8’ bed! 950ish plus winch, roof, cargo box full of tools, spare tire...etc. I guess I’m overweight! Thought 2520 lbs would be enough, but I guess it’s time to start looking for a F250 or F350!
Just thought I would share my real life weights!
My GCVW is 16,100lbs, so with the truck, RZR, and the full 7700lb gvw of my trailer, I’m at 14,742.25lbs.
Am I ok? F350 is probably best bet, simply for full floater axle in the rear.
The truck handles the weights just fine. Never had an issue, and I don’t feel white-knuckled at all! I guess I would just prefer to be under the limits, not at or over!
It really comes down to what you're comfortable with. Some are fine running over the capacity a bit. Others like myself try to stay within the legal limits of the truck.
If so you've added your weights twice
Without the trailer your 250-600 lbs to the good, axle and tire ratings are more important than gvw, load everything up and get individual axle weights.
I wouldn't worry about a few hundred lbs, most of the ratings on these 1/2 ton pickups is for warranty purposes.
Pulling a 7700 lb trailer with a F-150 is stretching it's ability, I have a nephew who pulls a 6500 lb inclosed with his 14 F-150 but he's looking for a bigger truck.
If you have room find a older F-250 for pulling the trailer and keep the F-150 for everything else.
Our 18 F-150 we just purchased is 7000 lb rated and has the full towing package but won't be hauling anything but us and groceries for some time.
I have a 04 F-450 to do the heavy work with, most times it's pulling well over it's 20k lb rating
