Just put a new distributor cap and coil in the truck.. Thought it might help the starting problem..I can get the truck started ok, its after it runs awhile and I shut it off. Then a little later it wants to turn over too long before it catches. Had a kit put in the carb some time ago..But just won't start very easily after it has warmed up...4180 C...
Try some experimentation. Next time you go to start it, and you know it's going to crank a long time, floor the gas pedal and hold it, and see if it starts quicker. What this will do is force the choke open if it happens to be shut, and it also gives the engine a lot of air. If it helps then you know you are a little rich, either from the choke or some other problem, like the fuel level in the bowls being too high.
Another test is before you start it, when you know it's going to crank a lot, before you start cranking pump the gas pedal to the floor two times, and then do not touch the pedal. Crank it over. If it starts better, you know you have a lean problem. If it takes even longer to get started, you know that fuel is not the problem.
First start up in the morning...couple gas pedal hits...usually will act as though it is going to start..sometimes it does. But then I have to
keep after the pedal a little to keep the revs up or it will die...Thx for the advice...
Morning is different and not when your problem occurs. But it is another part of the puzzle, if you have to keep after the gas pedal on a cold start, that is telling me your choke is not adjusted correctly. If you want to experiment with this, before you start it on a cold morning start, lift the hood and pull the air cleaner. Go in the truck and push the pedal to the floor once. Go back out and look at the choke door on the carb. It should be firmly shut, no crack at all. Touch it of it's fully shut, it should be shut with some firmness. If it's half open, that is why you have to keep pumping the pedal to keep it going in the morning.
Any change you make, mark it, change it, and then make notes of how it acts cold starting and warm starting afterward. I will warn you chokes take a little time and fiddling to get just right.
