Hello from Phoenix AZ
I am searching Ford Trucks. I also now own a 2002 Ford Employer SUV truck.
Here is why and an odd request; I am looking for Ford 8.8 2:26 and 2:47 Gear sets. I know Ford made them, and from what I have found most were in small Ford Trucks.
My plan is to install a 6R80 transmission, with its very tall lower gears I figure I will have the same or slightly better take off. And get great MPG on the highways in top gear.
Below is the RPM/speed charts of say a Ford Crown Vic with its stock gears and a 6R80 transmission compared to a 2:26 and 2:47 rear ends.
And yes I am aware of the possible lugging of the engines, but I will be running stock engines which in my testing have enough torque to pull my car at speed and RPM.
My ideas that I worked out so many years ago are coming to life in a number of ways, first was the Chevy TPI, all modern Ford Crown Vic (4.6, which is smaller that the classic 289) and many vans and trucks with the Ford Modular engine (4.6 and larger) have been running Ford's version of a TPI.
Now the Corvette C7 with its high performance 6+ litter engine running Chevy's version of the 6 speed transmission is running a 2:47 rear end and gets 29MPG with it...in a car that can do 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds and a top speed of over 170MPH.
I think it works.
Rich
This idea should also work on any car/truck.
