Hi there. Looking to see if someone might be able to help me with the PVH solenoid. I have a 2006 F250 Lariet 6.0L 4x4. Back in the fall I found that the 4x4 wasn't coming on when I turned the switch on the dash. I finally got it to start working......Turns out it was from lack of use......my bad. But I had it sorted out.
With this last snow storm we received, I found that My hubs aren't auto locking. 4x4 is working with manual lock. I replaced the PVH as I wasn't getting any vacuum past the solenoid. With the new solenoid I am still having the same problem. I did check the solenoid manually, by having power to the centre prong, and tapping the outer ones to ground, one at a time of coarse. Would anyone be able to tell me what I could check next. I am not too sure what activates the PVH solenoid.
I should mention that I can hear the solenoid on the transfer case activating too. 4x4 works great when the hubs are manually activated. Some are telling me to just use the manual....but I hate when **** doesn't work. Thanks in advanced
How long after turning the dash switch are you testing for vacuum after the PVH solenoid? When you activate 4x4.....the lock vacuum pulse is only 10-14 seconds long, and when you de-activate 4x4 the unlock pulse is only 5-7 seconds long give or take. After this vacuum is vented to atmosphere.
You can check for proper operation of the 4WD module by checking its outputs at the PVH solenoid.
First, check the circuit integrity of the power supply and the solenoid coils by back-probing pins 1 & 3 of the solenoid connector with the ignition in RUN. You should measure battery voltage on each.
Start engine. Back-probe pin 1 (gray/black wire) while an assistant operates the modes switch from 2H to 4H. If the 4WD module is working properly, you should see the voltage drop from battery voltage to ground (near zero volts) for the duration of the LOCK interval, then return to battery voltage. The unlock circuit, pin 3 (red) can be similarly checked should there be problems switch from 4H back to 2H.
Thank you for the info. I found out that my module had a fault in it from when the original PVH solenoid when for a crap. Had a friend of a co worker that has a scanner for the all of the modules on the truck run a scan. He cleared them for me and now it seems like I have a small vacuum leak behind the right hub. So on to the next project.
The info above wasn't working at first. cleared the code and we are up and running....almost
Thanks again for everyones input. All input is very appreciated and helpful.
