Noob here. Couldn't afford not to buy this

I posted in the 99-16 Super Duty forum and it was recommended that I look around here. Looks like an extremely valuable wealth of knowledge available so far. Thanks in advance for the help and advice. I picked this 2001 up yesterday with 39,500 on the odometer. It's my first truck so I went big. I figure I can tow damn near anything including my Porsche 944 track car, my other sports car stuff and whatever else looks at me funny.

So far planning new tires all around, fluids (Oil, trans, diff), Trans filter, fuel filter.

Any other recommendations/advice?

Welcome to FTE. I would sell it immediately if you keep it you’ll surely be infected with PMS...Powerstroke Modification Syndrome. . Very sharp looking truck, with only 40K on it I would watch for leaks. Sounds like it wasn’t driven much, seals tend to dry out.

1) ONLY use OEM Motorcraft sensors period!

Is it 2wd or 4x4? If you don’t mind what did you get it for?

Looks nice, congrats and hope it treats you well. Transmission filters don't require changing unless you suffer a transmission catastrophe. Fluid changes are good and if you look in the tech folders at the top of the forum page you will find a transmission fluid changing procedure that would be the best way to do it. There is also a page somewhere that I have lost track of on common issues and how to tend to them. Two of them would be a hydraulic (I think it's PS) line that rubs on the frame or shock absorber or the shock tower right inside the driver's side front wheel well. Up top of the engine there is a fuel line that runs along the passenger's side head that wears through in the center of the run where there is a mounting bracket that is insufficiently insulated from rubbing through.

Also pay close attention to your transmission. The '01 YM had transmission issues with the earlier vintage trucks. I don't remember what build date that they straightened the problem out, but it was later in '01. ~ April maybe?

Welcome to FTE. I will guess you are in Florida.
Remove the fuel bowl heater. Throw it away. Do NOT replace it.

Mechanical diode. Mine went at 160k, but I knew it was bound to happen. I have 450k on tranny now. April build

That's a nice find! I bought my truck a few years ago with only 19k KM's on the clock, it's a good feeling buying something that is almost brand new but do check for the things mentioned above. I haven't had any problems with seals, maybe I got lucky, but I now have over 90k KM's on the truck & the only things I've done apart from changing fluids & filters is to replace the original tyres!
Unfortunately I did catch a dose of PMS thanks to the great guys on here!

Curious what you paid for it. And looks like a Banks decal on it. Banks isn't cheap but they have a complete line of upgrades. Do you know what's on yours?

Sorry for the late reply. 2wd. It wouldn't be fair to say. My dad was the original owner. He and I are the only ones who have ever really used it. It was a sweetheart deal anyway, and included a trailer, Hensley hitch and a bunch of tools and other stuff he was getting rid of. So it would be hard to determine what I really paid for just the truck.

I'm not sure which Banks kit was installed, but the stock turbo was included with the truck. So, Power Pack? Stinger? I haven't gotten much into the turbo stuff. It's runs pretty well. Just putting out small fires. I bought it from my dad along with a trailer, Hensley hitch and some other tools etc. so I don't really know how much the truck was, but it was a dad deal anyway

Nice truck! Be sure to use an oil that is ford approved WSSM2C171F1 not just any CK formula on the shelf.
