My storage area is gravel. Tires seem to be ok after 3 years. I keep the tires covered while in storage and I think this helps the most. Generally an ST tire will fail due to age than miles.

You didn't mention what tire's you have, if they are the common cheap Chinese ST tire's they are at the end of their like cycle now if they have seen their third birthday. My last (and I really mean last set, no more of them for me) only made it to 2 years and 50 weeks before they internally failed.

I will use my little 4 x 8 as an example. The kit came with a 13” B rated tire. It was more than enough tire for the 900# weight capacity but when empty the damn thing would be all over the lane behind the truck. I decided to run a little experiment and found a great deal on some same size D rated tires. Tossed them on and the bouncing and wandering disappeared. My theory is the B had so much flex in the sidewalls that they acted like an unshocked spring. Since the trailer was a lightweight with no shocks the theory was there were two different rebound frequencies going and the heavier sidewall pretty much eliminated one of these uncontrolled rebounds. Stiffer tiress are a good thing for more reasons than their ability to carry heavier loads.

Blow outs

Recommend replacing factory tires very soon after buying. On my new Montana 5th, I installed Sailun load range G before leaving the dealership. I love my tire pressure monitoring system, saved me from disasters. I've towed 37,000 miles.

There is one very important fact that most TT owners either do not know or knowingly ignore and this fact is one of the most common of causes of TT blowouts. TT tires are speed limited. Most TT tires are rated at a max of 65 MPH. During the year we were on the road, 36000 miles, we were regularly passed by pickups pulling a TT doing 70-80 mph. TT tires are unable to get rid of the heat build up and eventually fail. Another major cause of failure is hitting the curb, missing the driveway//approach, when pulling in to campgrounds, gas stations, etc. Yes, the manufacturers could put better tires on their products but this will have no effect on some failures.

Blow out

Totally agree with the previous post. I was passed by a 5th wheel doing 80 today. Risky. These things are top heavy and stop slowly. I have strong opinions on this and will let the previous post say it politely. 👍 After towing 37,000 miles and seeing for myself, I'm not setting myself up for failure driving recklessly.

Blow out

Not to mention watching 5th wheels being towed down mountain grades at high speeds not knowing curves at the bottom. Many times I expected to see a 5er laying in a heap of rubble along the road. God was with them, but Santa will bring a lump of voal this Christmas.

Many people do not regularly examine their tires including the inside sidewall. I found this the other day on 2 year old Maxxis E Rated. I do not know when it happened but it did not blow. I put 4 new Goodyear Endurance on the camper since 2 of the Maxxis had cuts. The old 2 good Maxxis are on the car hauler.
