I am looking to buy a 2019 F-350 DRW I antisipate getting a fifth wheel in the next few years and wanted to add the fifth wheel prep package but it wont seem to let me on Fords site unless I also add 4X4.
I really don't want the extra maintenance, weight , or lower mileage.
Is this true ? You can't get it that in a 4x2
I do not know about the available options, but you can always order the kit and have it installed after you purchase the truck. It is a few hundred dollars more expensive, but it would get you the 4x2 truck with the 5th wheel prep kit.
I was concerned if I did an after market installation it wouldn't be the flush mount like ford offers in the prep package, but a salesman told me he THINKS they can order it with the prep package in 4x2, so just waiting for a confirmation.
You can order the same parts that ford uses, it will be identical to what would be installed if it were an option. You could likely combine the cost of the install into the purchase price if you wanted.
If anyone needs this, instructions for the current HC3Z-5F057-B 5th wheel OEM prep kit, this kit supersedes the HC3Z-5F057-A kit.
HC3Z-5F057-B Kit includes the main saddle(receiver for 4 puck 5th wheel hitches) and gooseneck receiver(no ball included)
Also includes all mounting hardware, 4 angle brackets and 7 Pin Y cable for in bed trailer electrical.
This should fit all 2017+ F250/350 SD based on info from multiple Ford dealers.
Get it with the order. It's $500 at the time of the order. I think the kit is at least $500 after the fact and you'll be into it another $500+ for install ... or you can do it yourself if you have the right tools. The DIY folks who have the best luck will generally have a tractor or other hoist that allows them to lift the bed up off the frame ... though I've read that it is possible to just jack it up a bit and work in the gaps.

I was looking at a stock 2020 without a factory prep kit. The dealer told me that the Ford OEM 5th wheel prep kit is on national back order. They tried to sell me a B&W for $1000 installed telling me that there’s only one in Florida and they have it in stock.
Probably a Covid-19 issue due to suppliers being shut down.
The factory hitch system has been on national back order since last November. All the production is going to new builds. Don't expect these to be available for a while.

exactly what I ran into. Reese makes the ford puck system though. But it was on back order from them as well.

Its actually super easy to install. I was going to pull the bed of my truck completely off, but tried jacking it up 8 inches, and it worked well. The whole install from start to finish only took a few hours, and a person can do it with hand tools. Only tricky thing I had to do was get the oddball socket to remove the bed bolts.
Installed the prep package back on July 12th it was back ordered basically since March, not a bad job to do. Basically took the advice from the YouTube video
Hi PreppyPyro,
I'm planning to do the same thing and I'm having a hard time finding this socket as well. Where did you get it or can you paste the link?
